TY - GEN AB - Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP), also known as cicatricial pemphigoid (CP), is a chronic autoimmune subepithelial bullous disorder with involvement of mucosal surfaces. MMP is typically diagnosed by direct immunofluorescence (DIF) microscopy of frozen biopsies that show linear IgG, IgA, and/or complement in the basement membrane zone (BMZ).1 It was therefore also our intention to develop and propose a scoring system for oral MMP that would be practical for dermatologists who see these patients regularly to use to monitor response to therapy, which separated reversible activity from damage. Future research would need to be done in a prospective manner to obtain accurate and all information needed to provide conclusions that can more truthfully guide future dermatologists' treatment plans for their MMP patients.
