Physicians tend to fall short in this regard, reporting perceived barriers such as lack of training, lack of time during visits, personal discomfort with the topics of death and dying, and fear of patients losing hope in overcoming their illness. This indicates a need for implementation of EOL curriculum across medical schools and residency programs, giving doctors-in-training the opportunity to practice and hone these skills at an earlier stage of their career.
