000001770 520__ $$aIn the United States, approximately 1,000,000 people developed disabling angina pectoris each year. Another 600 thousand people survive acute myocardial infarction resulting from coronary heart disease. A continuing rehabilitation program must be provided for these people if they are again to become productive participants in community life, an important component of such a program for persons with disabling CHD. is the rebuilding of strength and endurance after the period of limited activity which occurs during the acute stage of illness. Medically supervised group exercise programs which use community facilities and utilize skilled nursing assessment are one means of achieving the rehabilitation goal.
