000002168 520__ $$aObesity is a major public health concern linked to numerous comorbidities, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which can progress to cirrhosis and liver failure. This study examined the association between obesity, chronic hepatitis C infection, and advanced hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in a community population. Advanced steatosis was independently associated with obesity, advanced fibrosis, and metabolic comorbidities. Advanced fibrosis was independently associated with steatosis, male gender, age, and site. These findings highlight the combined impact of obesity and hepatitis C on liver disease severity and underscore the importance of addressing metabolic risk factors in affected individuals.
