TY - THES AB - Hispanic women are at increased risk for neural tube defect–affected pregnancies and have the lowest reported use of periconceptional folic acid (PFA). This study analyzed 1998–1999 Oregon PRAMS data to examine PFA use and predictors among Hispanic women. Only 15.7% reported PFA use prior to pregnancy, compared with 35.0% of non-Hispanic women. Knowledge of folic acid benefits was the strongest predictor of PFA use, along with pregnancy intention and older maternal age. Predictors varied by place of birth. Findings highlight the need for targeted, culturally appropriate interventions to increase folic acid awareness and use among Hispanic women.
