It is expected that CPOE will improve patient safety by supporting clinical decision support at the point of care. It is also expected to reduce costs by reducing redundancy in documentation and ordering to obtain these effects. Poe is often deployed in a group of applications, including Electronic Medical Record and Computer Decision Support. This thesis will consider communication theories in relation to CPOE as well as describe findings related to the effects of communication process change, beyond those explained by communication theory, that are important to understand CPOE's effect on communication. 000002218 540__ $$fCC BY 000002218 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000002218 650__ $$aPhysician-Nurse Relations$$031685 000002218 650__ $$aMedical Order Entry Systems$$036354 000002218 650__ $$aPhysician-Patient Relations$$024113 000002218 650__ $$aCommunication$$016935 000002218 650__ $$aDocumentation$$018012 000002218 650__ $$aDecision Support Systems, Clinical$$032052 000002218 650__ $$aElectronic Health Records$$038928 000002218 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000002218 692__ $$aDivision of Medical Informatics and Outcomes Research$$041423 000002218 7001_ $$aDykstra, Richard$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000002218 7201_ $$aAsh, Joan$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eMentor 000002218 7201_ $$aGorman, Paul$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor$$eCommittee chair 000002218 8564_ $$98ab0d148-0b42-493e-807c-0aa2cee56d60$$s3029258$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/2218/files/2947_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$20415d9397218e5f61f41dc5705e74673$$31 000002218 905__ $$a/rest/prod/8w/32/r5/81/8w32r581p 000002218 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:2218$$pstudent-work 000002218 980__ $$aBiomedical Informatics
