This study examined the 7-item Falls Efficacy Scale-International (FES-I) for unidimensionality and its ability to predict falls. Fifty-four participants with MS (EDSS 0–6) recorded falls for 6 months; FES-I was assessed at baseline. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a single-factor structure (CFI=0.969; TLI=0.953). Higher FES-I scores predicted falls within 3 months, independent of prior falls (OR=1.22; 95% CI: 1.04–1.43; p=0.016). The 7-item FES-I is a valid measure of fear of falling and a predictor of short-term fall risk in MS. 000002695 540__ $$fCC BY 000002695 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000002695 650__ $$aFear$$018921 000002695 650__ $$aMultiple Sclerosis$$022506 000002695 650__ $$aRehabilitation$$025280 000002695 650__ $$aAccidental Falls$$011050 000002695 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000002695 692__ $$aDepartment of Public Health and Preventive Medicine$$041444 000002695 7001_ $$aMazumber, Rajarshi$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000002695 7201_ $$aCameron, Michelle$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eMentor 000002695 8564_ $$9b56b89e0-669a-4468-94d6-319564b5d232$$s876648$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/2695/files/3494_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$28fb03f7c2f64949b69fb9a388093c143$$31 000002695 905__ $$a/rest/prod/7m/01/bk/97/7m01bk97z 000002695 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:2695$$pstudent-work 000002695 956__ $$aGet Accessible Copy$$uhttps://ohsu.libwizard.com/f/requestaccessibledocument 000002695 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
