A safe and effective protocol must minimize hyperglycemia and glucose variability while also avoiding hypoglycemia, all of which are associated with increased risk of death. In theory, computer-based protocols that base insulin dosing on the individual patient’s record of response offer better performance by adjusting to each patient’s sensitivity to insulin. 000002838 540__ $$fCC BY 000002838 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000002838 650__ $$aHypoglycemia$$020567 000002838 650__ $$aIntensive Care Units$$020904 000002838 650__ $$aHyperglycemia$$020508 000002838 650__ $$aIntensive Care Units$$020904 000002838 650__ $$aInsulin, Regular, Human$$039939 000002838 650__ $$aBlood Glucose$$015661 000002838 650__ $$aPharmacokinetics$$023908 000002838 650__ $$aDrug Therapy, Computer-Assisted$$018088 000002838 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000002838 692__ $$aDepartment of Public Health and Preventive Medicine$$041444 000002838 7001_ $$aPeckham, Andrew$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000002838 7201_ $$aLambert, William$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor$$eMentor 000002838 8564_ $$986ac81d3-420a-424a-8e5f-e9d1fa97a01a$$s2611921$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/2838/files/3605_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$27b5dc460a233e1f2f6c6dc33633998e1$$31 000002838 905__ $$a/rest/prod/ms/35/t8/91/ms35t891f 000002838 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:2838$$pstudent-work 000002838 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
