Concerns have been raised that current-generation EHR systems are inadequate to meet the unique information gathering needs of specialists. This study sought to identify whether information gathering needs and EHR usage patterns are different between specialists and generalists, and if so, to characterize their precise nature. We found that specialists and generalists have significantly different methods of incorporating EHRs into clinical workflow, perceptions of which elements of the EHR are most important, and opinions regarding how well these systems are suited to the display of relevant clinical information. Resolution of these disparities could have implications for clinical productivity and efficiency, patient and physician satisfaction, and the ability of clinical practices to achieve Meaningful Use incentives. 000002904 540__ $$fCC BY 000002904 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000002904 650__ $$aElectronic Health Records$$038928 000002904 650__ $$aPerception$$023779 000002904 650__ $$aSpecialization$$026206 000002904 650__ $$aPhysicians, Primary Care$$039063 000002904 6531_ $$aphysicians practice patterns 000002904 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000002904 692__ $$aDepartment of Public Health and Preventive Medicine$$041444 000002904 7001_ $$aRedd, Travis$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000002904 7201_ $$aChiang, Michael$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000002904 8564_ $$9d051a7dc-f468-4b73-852a-b5b3aabc3baf$$s335597$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/2904/files/3674_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2923ccd7995bb5cc5c89d288da67ca891$$31 000002904 905__ $$a/rest/prod/2v/23/vt/63/2v23vt63z 000002904 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:2904$$pstudent-work 000002904 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
