Nursing’s absence in policy development and implementation risks patient satisfaction, quality and cost. The DNP prepares nurses to lead policy development and implementation. A gap in the literature exists of whether DNPs feel adequately prepared for policy work and if, and at what levels, they are engaged. Thirty-four Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) DNP graduates were surveyed on this topic. Most felt prepared for, and were engaged in, policy work at the institutional level, but several barriers to engagement beyond the institution, namely time, incentive, guidance and support, were cited. DNPs should seize leadership opportunities and negotiate for time and incentive to engage. Institutions should maximize DNP scopes and encourage policy development and implementation. Steps should be taken at the individual and institutional levels to maximize the role of the DNP as a leader in policy development and implementation. 000002925 540__ $$fCC BY 000002925 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000002925 650__ $$aNursing$$023082 000002925 650__ $$aPolicy Making$$024337 000002925 650__ $$aClinical Governance$$038117 000002925 650__ $$aLeadership$$021357 000002925 691__ $$aSchool of Nursing$$041370 000002925 7001_ $$aCreviston, Jake$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000002925 7201_ $$aBradley, Katherine$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000002925 8564_ $$942ea65e8-49b2-4148-8482-415d881423b6$$s1070451$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/2925/files/3695_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$20570b5a3199702bfaf3cb5c043b6f2d7$$31 000002925 905__ $$a/rest/prod/2b/88/qc/44/2b88qc44n 000002925 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:2925$$pstudent-work 000002925 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
