Although providers have guidelines for the effective management of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia there is great variation in the proper execution of these guidelines. Clinical decision support systems embedded into electronic health records have been shown to improve clinician adherence to guidelines and improve patient care This capstone project outlines how to develop such a clinical decision support system for the management of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia in the emergency department and inpatient settings. To develop the system the current guidelines and institutional clinical pathways and workflows were reviewed and then use cases Boolean logic and test cases were designed The results of this capstone project provide a blueprint for the development of an electronic decision support tool. The challenges of putting this tool into practice and next steps for extending this work are also discussed. 000002945 540__ $$fCC BY 000002945 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000002945 650__ $$aElectronic Health Records$$038928 000002945 650__ $$aPediatrics$$023687 000002945 650__ $$aGuideline Adherence$$032040 000002945 650__ $$aNomograms$$036205 000002945 650__ $$aHyperbilirubinemia, Neonatal$$036903 000002945 650__ $$aDecision Support Systems, Clinical$$032052 000002945 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000002945 692__ $$aDepartment of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology$$041422 000002945 7001_ $$aUtidjian, Levon$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000002945 7201_ $$aLogan, Judith$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000002945 8564_ $$959e3de91-cad9-4c67-ab1e-4d82bce814b9$$s1123267$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/2945/files/3717_etd.pdf 000002945 905__ $$a/rest/prod/bc/38/6j/42/bc386j42c 000002945 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:2945$$pstudent-work 000002945 980__ $$aBiomedical Informatics
