With more than 50% affecting people between the ages of 15-24 years of age, and 15-24-year-old patients comprising only one-quarter of the US population, there is a disproportionate weight of STI cases affecting American youth. Although schools provide sexual health education, they cover the subject matter very broadly and with less focus; young people want practical guidance and help in avoiding STIs and pregnancies. All ethnic and racial groups are affected, but American Indian/Alaska Natives (AI/AN), as one of the smallest ethnic and racial groups in the United States, have experienced persistent disparities related to STI/HIV and teen pregnancies among their youth. The aim of this project includes a literature review of previous messaging studies to inform the design of text messages that could be used to recruit and consent study participants, promote condom use and appropriate STI testing, and evaluate the effectiveness of intervention. 000002953 540__ $$fCC BY 000002953 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000002953 650__ $$aAdolescent$$014285 000002953 650__ $$aTelemedicine$$029784 000002953 650__ $$aYoung Adult$$038480 000002953 650__ $$aReproductive Health$$039784 000002953 650__ $$aAmerican Indian or Alaska Native$$035484 000002953 650__ $$aPregnancy in Adolescence$$024529 000002953 650__ $$aText Messaging$$039698 000002953 650__ $$aSexually Transmitted Diseases$$025937 000002953 651__ $$aUnited States$$041167 000002953 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000002953 692__ $$aDepartment of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology$$041422 000002953 7001_ $$aYao, Patricia$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000002953 7201_ $$aEden, Karen$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor$$eMentor 000002953 8564_ $$97f679d97-375c-4c9a-8ab9-94b261edbd39$$s5091455$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/2953/files/3727_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$22a7ff702078f581fe3002c978d4bd6cd$$31 000002953 905__ $$a/rest/prod/5m/60/qs/06/5m60qs062 000002953 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:2953$$pstudent-work 000002953 980__ $$aBiomedical Informatics
