Reactivation from latency causes herpes zoster, which may be complicated by post-herpetic neuralgia. Innate immunity mediated by interferon and pro- inflammatory cytokines represents the first line of immune defense upon infection and reactivation. VZV is known to interfere with multiple innate immune signaling pathways including the central transcription factor NFĸB. However the role of these inhibitory mechanisms in vivo is unknown. Simian varicella virus (SVV)-infection of rhesus macaques recapitulates key aspects of VZV pathogenesis and this model thus permits examining the role of immune evasion mechanisms in vivo. 000002970 540__ $$fCC BY 000002970 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000002970 650__ $$aUbiquitin$$033233 000002970 650__ $$aImmune Evasion$$038852 000002970 650__ $$aProtein Serine-Threonine Kinases$$029894 000002970 650__ $$aHerpesvirus 3, Human$$027725 000002970 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000002970 692__ $$aDepartment of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology$$041429 000002970 7001_ $$aWhitmer, Travis$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000002970 7201_ $$aFrüh, Klaus$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000002970 8564_ $$97e0a6d01-7119-4cd4-a854-9d45c9ded787$$s2570718$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/2970/files/3744_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2462fb45822822136149099d7f7ba4d0f$$31 000002970 905__ $$a/rest/prod/08/61/2n/72/08612n72t 000002970 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:2970$$pstudent-work 000002970 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
