This highlights our lack of understanding of disease progression surrounding metastatic spread of disease. This dissertation provides experimental evidence that cell fusion is a mechanism for acquisition of metastatic phenotypes, and also presents the identification of a novel prognostic circulating biomarker that may guide treatment regimens in patients. 000003027 540__ $$fCC BY 000003027 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000003027 650__ $$aMacrophages$$021733 000003027 650__ $$aCell Fusion$$016283 000003027 650__ $$aBreast Neoplasms$$015809 000003027 650__ $$aDisease Progression$$030807 000003027 650__ $$aNeoplasms, Second Primary$$029258 000003027 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000003027 692__ $$aDepartment of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology$$041399 000003027 7001_ $$aGast, Charles$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$10000-0002-6682-3152 000003027 7201_ $$aWong, Melissa$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor$$eMentor 000003027 7201_ $$aCoussens, Lisa$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor$$eMentor 000003027 8564_ $$9ec4fe7e9-e5e6-4e67-b62b-5bfac705a1b3$$s20274034$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/3027/files/3840_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2ae2bbeb3a91169eb3dc724ce42501f80$$31 000003027 905__ $$a/rest/prod/dj/52/w5/06/dj52w506g 000003027 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:3027$$pstudent-work 000003027 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
