For example, glial cells are vital for maintaining brain health after injury and in disease conditions. In this dissertation, I present data collected during my time in the Logan lab where we have studied how glial cells act as immune responders in the Drosophila brain. I will discuss our current understanding of the glial cell immune response and then present my data revealing how the evolutionarily conserved trimeric Protein Phosphatase 4 (PP4) serine/threonine phosphatase complex is a novel member of the glial response to nerve injury in the adult Drosophila brain. 000003038 540__ $$fCC BY 000003038 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000003038 650__ $$aDrosophila$$018058 000003038 650__ $$aImmunity$$020668 000003038 650__ $$aNeuroglia$$022841 000003038 650__ $$aNeurosciences$$022870 000003038 650__ $$aPhosphoprotein Phosphatases$$024050 000003038 6531_ $$aglia 000003038 6531_ $$ainjury 000003038 6531_ $$aimmune response 000003038 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000003038 692__ $$aVollum Institute$$041509 000003038 7001_ $$aWinfree, Lilly$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$10000-0001-7120-8536 000003038 7201_ $$aLogan, Mary$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000003038 8564_ $$94b3a29ce-6e65-4b0a-bf97-50343aaa175c$$s7679219$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/3038/files/3868_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$21872465148bbf12e9bca17222c5b443a$$31 000003038 905__ $$a/rest/prod/5x/21/tf/68/5x21tf68v 000003038 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:3038$$pstudent-work 000003038 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
