000000308 520__ $$aThis cohort study examined whether demographic factors and involvement of significant others are associated with treatment outcomes and length of treatment among pathological gamblers receiving services through Oregon Problem Gambling Services (OPGS). Data from 4,410 adult gamblers discharged between 2001 and 2007 were analyzed, including information on demographics, gambling-related debt, treatment completion, and participation of significant others in family treatment programs. Results indicated that age, ethnicity, gambling debt, and having a significant other were associated with successful treatment outcomes, with education moderating the effect of significant other involvement. Several demographic factors and significant other participation were also associated with longer treatment duration. Findings suggest that including significant others in gambling treatment may enhance treatment outcomes through increased social support.
