Maternal asthma increases the risk of childhood asthma more than paternal disease, suggesting intrauterine exposures contribute to airway hyperreactivity. As airway hyperreactivity seldom returns to the normal range despite intensive treatment, this suggests that structural alterations with in utero origins impair lung function lifelong. I hypothesized that airway hyperreactivity in offspring born to mothers with asthma is established during development and results from increased lung sensory innervation. 000003110 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000003110 650__ $$aLung$$021644 000003110 650__ $$aAsthma$$015168 000003110 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000003110 692__ $$aDepartment of Biomedical Engineering$$041397 000003110 7001_ $$aLebold, Katherine$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000003110 7201_ $$aJacoby, David$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000003110 7201_ $$aMarks, Daniel$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eCommittee member 000003110 7201_ $$aFryer, Allison$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eCommittee chair 000003110 7201_ $$aGiraud, George$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eCommittee member 000003110 7201_ $$aThornburg, Kent$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal 000003110 8564_ $$94dee2520-32a3-4340-97fc-4949b24dc051$$s46750421$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/3110/files/4071_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$26982fedcde9d1c67d907afd045170c9e$$31 000003110 905__ $$a/rest/prod/j9/60/20/81/j9602081b 000003110 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:3110$$pstudent-work 000003110 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
