While extending life is beneficial, it often compromises the quality of life and the experience of dying. Concerns have been raised by some disabled individuals that healthcare providers often prioritize quality of life to the extent that it may not reflect the patients' own wishes regarding life-prolonging treatments. Research indicates that many people receive more aggressive treatment at the end of life than they would prefer. These issues underscore the need for better end-of-life documentation in the U.S.. To improve advance care planning, primary care providers should proactively engage middle-aged patients in discussions about their end-of-life wishes and available options. 000003112 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000003112 650__ $$aPublic Health$$024885 000003112 650__ $$aDelivery of Health Care$$017452 000003112 650__ $$aPrimary Health Care$$024590 000003112 650__ $$aAdvance Care Planning$$034416 000003112 650__ $$aQuality of Life$$025032 000003112 650__ $$aLife Expectancy$$021501 000003112 650__ $$aDeath$$017403 000003112 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000003112 692__ $$aDivision of Physician Assistant Education$$041465 000003112 7001_ $$aStroda, Contessa$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000003112 7201_ $$aDrummond, Sarah$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000003112 8564_ $$95c2ba4ab-1a3e-4174-9100-95084ff3be67$$s377918$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/3112/files/4075_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$20862adcdf4d19251c04ba10e08b83b92$$31 000003112 905__ $$a/rest/prod/2n/49/t1/84/2n49t184d 000003112 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:3112$$pstudent-work 000003112 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
