TY - GEN N2 - Mary Elizabeth 褺etsy� Baptist, born raised in Nampa, Idaho during the 1920s and 1930s, came to Portland to attend the medical technology program at the University of Oregon Medical School in 1945, and upon her graduation, worked her way through the ranks of the Multnomah County Hospital. Her initial duties included 襝harting� patients, but she eventually became a full-fledged medical technician, as well as taking time to teach and offer lectures in parasitology and urinalysis. She shares what hospital administration and coursework was like in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as her time under President Laster, when the medical technology program was in jeopardy, but was ultimately saved by the appearance of 襪ed techs� at state legislative hearings. Baptist also recounts the relationships between other hospitals' medical technology programs, and also offers advices to those potentially interested in entering the profession.
