This paper explores the organizational ethics of these three select groups of patients who often obtain priority access to care in the busy ED. A specific case is provided to highlight the challenges of these complicated encounters. The organizational ethics are then explored and potential solutions are identified. This is an important ethical and operational issue that requires exploration by emergency department and hospital leaders because of the potential harm it may cause other patients and the strong negative emotional reactions by employees that can lead to decreased staff morale. 000004048 650__ $$aEmergency Service, Hospital$$018352 000004048 650__ $$aHealthcare organizational ethics 000004048 650__ $$aHealth Services Accessibility$$019904 000004048 6531_ $$avip clients 000004048 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000004048 692__ $$aDivision of Management$$041635 000004048 7001_ $$aHeilman, James$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000004048 8564_ $$9885fbb72-c243-4d8a-9577-b6f86118b3f4$$s272835$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/4048/files/Priority_Access_to_Care_in_the_Emergency_Department.pdf 000004048 905__ $$a/rest/prod/kw/52/j8/32/kw52j832v 000004048 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:4048$$pstudent-work 000004048 980__ $$aReflections on Healthcare Management
