Crucial for teaching and patient care in an academic medical center, rounds were categorized against the framework of distributed cognition, a theory of cognition grounded in cognitive anthropology. Through a series of observations of interdisciplinary rounds in academic medical intensive care settings, supplemented by interviews with participants, the multiple purposes and perspectives of rounds were organized into a categorical list to aid future work on the topic, especially as they apply to technology development and the field of medical informatics. This work explores the application of such diffuse knowledge in an intensive care setting. 000000419 540__ $$fCC BY 000000419 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000419 650__ $$aCognition$$016868 000000419 650__ $$aTeaching$$026786 000000419 650__ $$aClassification$$016768 000000419 650__ $$aCritical Care$$017198 000000419 650__ $$aMedical Informatics$$021938 000000419 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000419 692__ $$aDepartment of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology$$041422 000000419 7001_ $$aKerfoot, Amy$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000419 7201_ $$aGorman, Paul$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000000419 8564_ $$9b5bf29a9-db2b-43b4-b34e-00bce9300dd2$$s167096$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/419/files/420_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2753019402e1a1dbba3f5c564036e2c1f$$31 000000419 905__ $$a/rest/prod/ws/85/9f/67/ws859f67m 000000419 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:419$$pstudent-work 000000419 980__ $$aBiomedical Informatics
