TY - THES N2 - Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) is prominent within elite athletics due to the increased training demands, societal and sport-specific pressures to have an “ideal” body composition, and the general stress that comes along with being a student-athlete. It describes the impaired physiological functioning caused by a relative energy deficiency, including compromised bone health, menstrual function in females, immunity, protein synthesis, cardiovascular health, and metabolic rate. The proposed study will provide deeper insight into the relationship between diet quality, macronutrient and micronutrient intake, and the association with RED-S among high school and collegiate athletes.
