In this oral history, Gregory Bratman interviews Dr. Olvera Alvarez about his childhood in Mexico, his educational background in civil engineering and theology, and his research into the connection between stress, environment, economic status, and the effects these have on a patient’s health across their life span. Other notable topics include Dr. Olvera Alvarez’s lifelong struggle with intellectual insecurity, his promotion of meaningful science and scholarship over productivity, and his work helping undergraduate researchers develop more philosophical scientific thinking.
