Autistics often face difficulties in processing sensory information, affecting behavior and social interactions. Existing literature on sensory-based interventions in psychiatric units is limited, necessitating targeted interventions for Autistic adults. Educational sessions were conducted with nursing staff, with pre-intervention and post-intervention surveys assessing staff perceptions. Results demonstrated a medium effect size (0.382) and a twenty percent improvement (p = 0.001) in survey scores, indicating enhanced knowledge and comfort in sensory-based care. Qualitative analysis highlighted barriers, including a lack of education, bureaucratic challenges in obtaining tools, and concerns about increased workload. The project demonstrated the positive impact of the intervention, emphasizing the need for widespread, specialized training and standardized toolkits to support sensory-based care. Further research is warranted to deepen understanding and promote sustained improvements in providing quality care for Autistics in psychiatric settings.}, number = {ETD}, doi = {https://doi.org/10.6083/bpxhc42761}, recid = {42761}, address = {2024-03-13}, }
