In response to these findings, OHSU launched a first-of-its kind 10-week disability elective at the School of Medicine in 2022. Pre- and post-elective student surveys demonstrated self-reported improvements in comfort, attitudes, and clinical competency working with PWD after completion of the course. This workshop aims to address and begin to dismantle implicit biases held by healthcare providers (HCPs) about their patients with disabilities (PWD). By bringing awareness to the impact of power dynamics in healthcare provision, both within individual clinical relationships as well as through the systematic reinforcement of stereotypes and stigmatization, HCPs can develop practices to create stronger partnerships with PWD and improve health outcomes. Educators who attend will be able to embed these elements into teaching sessions that they develop. 000042963 540__ $$fCC BY 000042963 542__ $$fIn copyright - joint owners 000042963 650__ $$aEducation, Medical$$018223 000042963 650__ $$aHealth Education$$019873 000042963 650__ $$aPatient-Centered Care$$031106 000042963 650__ $$aDisabled Persons$$019843 000042963 650__ $$aStereotyping$$026396 000042963 650__ $$aStudents, Medical$$026492 000042963 650__ $$aHealth Services Accessibility$$019904 000042963 650__ $$aPatient Care$$019442 000042963 6531_ $$apower-sharing 000042963 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000042963 692__ $$aInstitute on Development and Disability$$041474 000042963 7001_ $$aQuinn, Elizabeth (Libby)$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000042963 7001_ $$aEppelsheimer, Rhonda$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000042963 7201_ $$aEppelsheimer, Rhonda$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$eMentor$$7Person 000042963 8564_ $$9883b1117-8c5a-413a-9867-b4519b1753c7$$s471873$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/42963/files/Abstract_SEE2024_QuinnElizabeth.pdf 000042963 980__ $$aOHSU Symposium on Educational Excellence (SEE)
