It is believed, however that it is possible by utilizing all of the information now available to delimit the number by certain maximum and minimum figures. With this object in view, a number of the more important narcotic surveys made in recent years were analyzed; also the reports made by agents of the Federal Bureau of Internal Revenue and other persons in the narcotic clinics conducted in different parts of the country; statistics in dose of addiction, world production of narcotics and the quantities imported into this country were compiled and studied.
