      abstract = {The subject of infancy and maternity is one of particular  im­portance in the field of public health, since in this  field in which everyone has more or less interest, so much  can be taught through different types of educational  channels, and so many deaths are pre­ventable in this field  if the proper education is available to the population as a  whole. The installation of education here lagged greatly  behind that of other public health work, but in 1893, child  hygiene was inaugurated, not through organized health  departments but rather through the philanthropic or private  organizations of the times. These all directed their  efforts in the field of sanitation chiefly, as a starting  point.},
