However, the second glance does not give a feeling of progress and satisfaction but one of regret and disappointment that there are still so many children who need care. Despite the unusual progress made in medicine, science, and social work, there are still children who, because of race, religion, or color, cannot share in the provisions made for dependent children. There are others, many of them, who are separated from their homes because of poverty, unemployment, and unnecessary accidents. There are still scores of others who are receiving care in foster homes and institutions from persons without experience, training, skill, or understanding. Yet, inadequate as our present system of caring for these children may seem, it has been attained only by persistent struggle and work over a long period of years. To make the present brighter and hopes for the future greater let us review the history of that struggle of the past. 000043874 540__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000043874 650__ $$aChild$$016462 000043874 650__ $$aSocial Work$$026122 000043874 691__ $$aUO Medical School$$041362$$7(1915-1974)$$041362 000043874 692__ $$aUOMS Department of Nursing Education$$041452 000043874 7001_ $$aWelch, Freddy-Jane$$uUniversity of Oregon$$041359 000043874 8564_ $$91375216c-a7f7-490a-b348-8075508b5694$$s6758621$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/43874/files/Welch.Freddy-Jane.pdf 000043874 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:43874$$pstudent-work 000043874 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
