I began by characterizing these oscillations in the primary auditory cortex of animals passively listening to tones. After confirming that auditory stimuli reliably induced high‑frequency oscillations, I examined how these oscillations correlated with the perception of simple, meaningful tone patterns. The findings presented here strongly suggest that gamma‑ and high‑gamma–range oscillations are modulated by auditory perception and may play an important role in encoding and processing acoustic information. 000000446 540__ $$fCC BY 000000446 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000446 650__ $$aNeurophysiology$$022866 000000446 650__ $$aNeuronal Plasticity$$022857 000000446 650__ $$aPhysiology$$024123 000000446 650__ $$aAuditory Cortex$$015218 000000446 650__ $$aRats 000000446 650__ $$aAuditory Perception$$015222 000000446 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000446 692__ $$aDepartment of Physiology and Pharmacology$$041442 000000446 7001_ $$aVilela-Rodrigues, Paulo$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000446 7201_ $$aWelsh, John$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000000446 8564_ $$906e8764a-5aed-4968-b43a-3dc57331acbe$$s4964128$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/446/files/447_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2991a8b7fd38b7915990bacb303596e3d$$31 000000446 905__ $$a/rest/prod/41/68/7h/44/41687h449 000000446 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:446$$pstudent-work 000000446 956__ $$aGet Accessible Copy$$uhttps://ohsu.libwizard.com/f/requestaccessibledocument 000000446 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
