Glial cells are critical for maintaining a healthy nervous system. Key regulatory functions include synaptic remodeling, metabolic support of neurons, and protective immune responses. In this dissertation, I use the powerful Drosophila melanogaster system to examine and add to the collective understanding of what happens in the central brain as glia react to nerve axotomy.
