This study tested whether outer retinal development influences ipRGC maturation and adult circadian function using retinally degenerate CBA/J mice. Behavioral assays revealed impaired photoentrainment despite intact melanopsin signaling at the retinal level. Photoreceptor loss increased ipRGC numbers without altering their morphology, suggesting regulation of developmental cell death. Central analyses showed alterations in SCN neuropeptide composition and enhanced light‑induced activation. Together, these findings indicate that visual system maturation shapes central circadian circuitry and behavior. 000000452 540__ $$fCC BY 000000452 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000452 650__ $$aCircadian Rhythm$$016745 000000452 650__ $$aPhysiology$$024123 000000452 650__ $$aRetinal Cone Photoreceptor Cells$$030372 000000452 650__ $$aRetinal Ganglion Cells$$025392 000000452 650__ $$aRetinal Rod Photoreceptor Cells$$030371 000000452 650__ $$aVirulence Factors$$034836 000000452 650__ $$aMice, Inbred CBA$$022239 000000452 650__ $$amelanopsin 000000452 650__ $$aSuprachiasmatic Nucleus$$026635 000000452 650__ $$aCircadian Clocks$$039026 000000452 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000452 692__ $$aVollum Institute$$041509 000000452 7001_ $$aRuggiero, Linda$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000452 7201_ $$aRobinson, David$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor$$eMentor 000000452 8564_ $$95291b0f6-daf5-4a87-8237-39463a4b48cd$$s1863408$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/452/files/453_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$23183d9423b5f7742a8f7cd415ef4b055$$31 000000452 901__ $$a<p>These documents are archival records.
