Alcohol use disorder (AUD) induces dysregulation of glutamatergic and GABAergic signaling within the nucleus accumbens core (NAcC) and medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) which contributes to altered neural dynamics within decision-making circuitry that underlie addictive behavior. Meanwhile, NAcC sEPSC frequency and amplitude increased in response to DOI but only in the ethanol-drinking mice. DOI had no significant effect on intrinsic cell properties. This work and the subsequent investigations it will inform aims to improve the clinical precision, efficacy, and safety of psychedelic-assisted therapies.
