Veterans who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) are at risk for both chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We found recently that photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to light) is associated with chronic pain in Veterans with TBI and that photosensitivity and PTSD both are significant predictors of chronic pain (Balba, 2022, J Neurotrauma). This should inform more targeted treatment approaches and may generalize to other chronic pain populations.
