This study evaluated the effects of root extracts, derived fractions, and leaf extracts of W. somnifera on age-associated locomotor decline in a Drosophila melanogaster model. Aqueous leaf extract modestly improved phototaxis in males at 0.5 mg/g (p = 0.030) but not in females. The hydroalcoholic leaf extract significantly enhanced phototaxis in females at 2 mg/g (p = 0.019) but reduced performance in males at 0.5 mg/g (p < 0.001). Non-withanolide, water-soluble compounds in the root contribute to functional benefits, warranting further investigation of active constituents underlying these effects.
