This dissertation discusses three main topics: (1) the genomic structure of the RGM family of genes, (2) the mechanisms of transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation focusing on RGMc, and (3) the molecular evolution of the RGM family. The long-range and overarching goal of this dissertation is to enhance understanding of the molecular mechanisms by which evolution has shaped the regulation of gene expression in a family of genes, like the RGM family. 000000502 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000502 650__ $$aMembrane Proteins$$022009 000000502 650__ $$aNerve Tissue Proteins$$022806 000000502 650__ $$aMuscle Proteins$$022527 000000502 650__ $$aBone Morphogenetic Proteins$$031660 000000502 650__ $$aMyogenin$$030424 000000502 650__ $$aGene Expression Regulation$$019437 000000502 650__ $$aAxon Guidance$$011783 000000502 650__ $$aHemochromatosis Protein$$011660 000000502 650__ $$aHemochromatosis$$020035 000000502 650__ $$aGene Expression$$028717 000000502 650__ $$aIron$$021036 000000502 650__ $$aEvolution, Molecular$$031376 000000502 6531_ $$arepulsive guidance molecule 000000502 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000502 692__ $$aDepartment of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology$$041396 000000502 7001_ $$aSeveryn, Christopher$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000502 7201_ $$aRotwein, Peter$$7Personal$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$eAdvisor 000000502 8564_ $$9128dd14f-85f1-4c4d-aefa-e2840778e434$$s6421742$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/502/files/503_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2054aae9a327fe5fdcb68cbfbae76c0bb$$31 000000502 905__ $$a/rest/prod/7m/01/bk/74/7m01bk74n 000000502 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:502$$pstudent-work 000000502 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
