Patterns of UV exposure and sunburn may differentially influence melanoma risk by gender and anatomic site. This study examined exposure–response relationships by gender and body location using an ecologic analysis of population‑based data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program and UV Index data from the National Weather Service. Analyses included 39,582 melanoma cases diagnosed among Caucasians under 76 years of age during 2000–2004. Results demonstrated significant gender‑ and site‑specific differences in melanoma incidence, suggesting that geographic location and protective behaviors may play an important role in modifying risk. 000000509 540__ $$fCC BY 000000509 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000509 650__ $$aEpidemiology$$018518 000000509 650__ $$aUltraviolet Rays$$027554 000000509 650__ $$aMelanoma$$021989 000000509 650__ $$aSunburn$$026617 000000509 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000509 692__ $$aDepartment of Public Health and Preventive Medicine$$041444 000000509 7001_ $$aRdesinski, Rebecca$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000509 7201_ $$aLambert, William$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor$$eMentor 000000509 8564_ $$98588e13d-e1e4-4624-8538-673b9a4387ad$$s973722$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/509/files/510_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$269dd3a04b47339b8314fcac3060dc00c$$31 000000509 901__ $$a<p>These documents are archival records.
