000000568 520__ $$aSerious infections are a known concern for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients treated with anti‑TNF drugs, which suppress immune function. This study examined whether anti‑TNF therapy increases the risk of serious skin and soft tissue infections (SSSTIs) requiring hospitalization. Using a nested case‑control design within a validated cohort of RA patients in the Veterans Integrated Service Network 20, we identified SSSTI cases and matched controls by index date and VA hospital site. Multivariate conditional logistic regression was used to assess risk while adjusting for demographics, immunosuppressant use, comorbidities, and other autoimmune conditions. This study evaluates whether anti‑TNF therapy is associated with higher SSSTI risk compared to non‑use.
