This thesis examines how altered Purkinje cell pacemaking affects motor control in two mouse models. In a model of episodic ataxia type 1 (EA1), stress‑related β‑adrenergic signaling worsened imprecise firing, while acetazolamide restored precision and blocked stress effects, suggesting a cellular basis for EA1 attacks. In a second model with reduced SK2 channel expression, widespread irregular firing impaired balance only when the remaining normally firing lobules were ablated. These findings highlight the role of precise Purkinje cell output in motor coordination. 000000572 540__ $$fCC BY 000000572 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000572 650__ $$aPurkinje Cells$$024938 000000572 650__ $$aBiological Clocks$$015560 000000572 650__ $$aSmall-Conductance Calcium-Activated Potassium Channels$$036935 000000572 650__ $$aAtaxia$$015177 000000572 650__ $$aPotassium Channels$$028230 000000572 650__ $$aCerebellum$$016353 000000572 650__ $$aKv1.1 Potassium Channel$$036942 000000572 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000572 692__ $$aVollum Institute$$041509 000000572 7001_ $$aDavis, Forrest$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000572 7201_ $$aMaylie, James$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000000572 7201_ $$aAdelman, John$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000000572 8564_ $$9a8121626-01d4-4f0c-b570-7d54b1d336fb$$s2572947$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/572/files/573_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$23704a8b5b8b5098354a2037692298457$$31 000000572 905__ $$a/rest/prod/k0/69/87/51/k0698751r 000000572 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:572$$pstudent-work 000000572 956__ $$aGet Accessible Copy$$uhttps://ohsu.libwizard.com/f/requestaccessibledocument 000000572 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
