When premiums increased by 16.5% on January 1, 2006, 6% of enrollees discontinued coverage, creating a natural experiment to examine factors associated with disenrollment. Using a retrospective cohort of 10,586 members, we analyzed whether chronic medical conditions or income predicted discontinuation. Logistic regression showed that four conditions—alcohol use, cancer, neurological disorders, and pregnancy—were unexpectedly associated with higher odds of leaving OMIP, while income showed no significant effect. Higher premiums and shorter enrollment duration also predicted disenrollment. Findings highlight the need to understand why certain medically vulnerable groups exit high‑risk insurance pools after cost increases and how these programs might better retain enrollees. 000000616 540__ $$fCC BY 000000616 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000616 650__ $$aMedically Uninsured$$029654 000000616 650__ $$aInsurance Pools$$028276 000000616 650__ $$aPregnancy$$024523 000000616 650__ $$aRetrospective Studies$$025415 000000616 650__ $$aNeoplasms$$022758 000000616 650__ $$aNervous System Diseases$$022809 000000616 651__ $$aOregon$$041094 000000616 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000616 692__ $$aDepartment of Public Health and Preventive Medicine$$041444 000000616 7001_ $$aMielke, Beverly$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000616 8564_ $$90114837e-32f4-463a-9e0e-d9b1e001b710$$s159485$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/616/files/617_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2381079c829a98da126d99a4f75b3f96b$$31 000000616 905__ $$a/rest/prod/xg/94/hp/56/xg94hp56z 000000616 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:616$$pstudent-work 000000616 956__ $$aGet Accessible Copy$$uhttps://ohsu.libwizard.com/f/requestaccessibledocument 000000616 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
