TY - THES AB - Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an irreversible neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive cognitive decline and loss of functional independence. Aging is the primary risk factor, and demographic trends predict a dramatic rise in AD prevalence as the U.S. population aged ≥65 doubles by 2030. In Oregon, growth of the elderly population will exceed 50% between 2010 and 2020, further increasing AD risk. Combined with the absence of effective preventive strategies and the burden on caregivers, these trends underscore AD as a major public health concern requiring urgent attention and intervention.
