Using ten years of NASS‑CDS data, this study compared risks of polytrauma in pole-type versus vehicle-to-vehicle side impacts with injury severity measured by ISS. Multivariable GEE log‑binomial models showed pole impacts significantly increased the risk of severe injury (RR = 1.53; 95% CI: 1.15–2.03). Near-side occupants also faced higher risk than far-side occupants (RR = 1.82; 95% CI: 1.36–2.44). Findings support improvements in vehicle and roadway design to reduce side‑impact injury severity. 000000630 540__ $$fCC BY 000000630 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000630 650__ $$aWounds and Injuries$$028003 000000630 650__ $$aAccidents, Traffic$$011055 000000630 650__ $$aRisk Assessment$$030914 000000630 650__ $$aMultiple Trauma$$022507 000000630 6531_ $$atraffic accidents 000000630 6531_ $$apoles (engineering) 000000630 6531_ $$atraumatism 000000630 6531_ $$aside-impact collisions 000000630 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000630 692__ $$aDepartment of Public Health and Preventive Medicine$$041444 000000630 7001_ $$aAlexandridis, Apostolos$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000630 8564_ $$93f14d348-8a7f-45f9-aeb4-8f77fae4a958$$s427854$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/630/files/631_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2cc61a9d26ba673d69cd3ed95a6c4be70$$31 000000630 905__ $$a/rest/prod/x9/20/fw/87/x920fw877 000000630 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:630$$pstudent-work 000000630 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
