Because aerosolized ricin poses a significant bioterrorism risk, understanding its pulmonary effects is critical. This dissertation investigates ricin‑triggered inflammatory responses in the lungs of mice. The findings show that ricin exposure induces strong expression of inflammatory genes, edema, increased microvascular permeability, and pronounced neutrophil infiltration. These results identify key features of ricin‑mediated lung injury and help clarify the molecular basis of ricin‑induced inflammation. 000000660 540__ $$fCC BY 000000660 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000660 650__ $$aCarrier Proteins$$016184 000000660 650__ $$aInflammation$$020800 000000660 650__ $$aMacrophages$$021733 000000660 650__ $$aLung$$021644 000000660 650__ $$aInterleukin-1$$020917 000000660 650__ $$aRicin$$025496 000000660 6531_ $$alungs 000000660 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000660 692__ $$aDepartment of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology$$041399 000000660 7001_ $$aLindauer, Meghan$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000660 7201_ $$aMagun, Bruce$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eMentor 000000660 8564_ $$91369f644-01b7-4444-b473-6b4b5ba837f6$$s7338855$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/660/files/661_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$2c0cd70df0f1ba837a3c9b4c660b21ada$$31 000000660 905__ $$a/rest/prod/r4/94/vk/21/r494vk213 000000660 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:660$$pstudent-work 000000660 956__ $$aGet Accessible Copy$$uhttps://ohsu.libwizard.com/f/requestaccessibledocument 000000660 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
