Interneurons in stratum radiatum/lacunosum‑moleculare expressed somatodendritic KARs with and without GluR5, but only GluR5‑containing KARs contributed to synaptic EPSCs. AMPA receptors also generated a slow EPSC tail current, which did not appear in spontaneous events, suggesting receptor segregation across synapses. The slow tail reflected intrinsic AMPAR kinetics rather than glutamate spillover. In stratum oriens interneurons, GluR5‑KARs were extrasynaptic and did not contribute to EPSCs. Findings indicate cell‑type, synapse‑specific, and subunit‑dependent KAR localization. 000000684 540__ $$fCC BY 000000684 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000684 650__ $$aInterneurons$$020936 000000684 650__ $$aKainic Acid$$021133 000000684 650__ $$aHippocampus$$020217 000000684 650__ $$aSynapses$$026704 000000684 650__ $$aReceptors, Kainic Acid$$030498 000000684 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000684 692__ $$aVollum Institute$$041509 000000684 7001_ $$aWondolowski, Joyce$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000684 7201_ $$aFrerking, Matthew$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eMentor 000000684 8564_ $$9d5382aea-4e5a-4675-8979-0fbe8b456a3d$$s5565808$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/684/files/685_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$28c195eb14a391db61c4ae1035ac1d456$$31 000000684 901__ $$a<p>These documents are archival records.
