Neuropeptide Y (NPY) neurons in the dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH) have emerged as key regulators of feeding behavior, promoting energy intake over expenditure. This thesis examines DMH-NPY neurons during development, lactation, and diet-induced obesity using gene expression analysis, neuronal tracing, and characterization of leptin and CART interactions. Findings reveal distinct mechanisms driving DMH-NPY activation and hyperphagia, offering insights into hypothalamic adaptations that favor positive energy balance and contribute to obesity. 000000713 540__ $$fCC BY 000000713 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000713 650__ $$aNeuropeptide Y$$022862 000000713 650__ $$aBody Weight Changes$$015709 000000713 650__ $$aHomeostasis$$020285 000000713 650__ $$aEating$$018162 000000713 650__ $$aBody Weight$$015708 000000713 650__ $$aHypothalamus$$020595 000000713 650__ $$aThermogenesis$$032988 000000713 650__ $$aObesity$$023118 000000713 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000713 692__ $$aVollum Institute$$041509 000000713 7001_ $$aLee, Shin$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000713 7201_ $$aGrove, Kevin$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor$$eMentor 000000713 8564_ $$95c1e670e-e192-426e-bf22-94cdd8900c87$$s9106276$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/713/files/716_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$203e765e8e07ab7db8e8f684ccd9f93e6$$31 000000713 905__ $$a/rest/prod/st/74/cq/44/st74cq441 000000713 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:713$$pstudent-work 000000713 956__ $$aGet Accessible Copy$$uhttps://ohsu.libwizard.com/f/requestaccessibledocument 000000713 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
