This is not due to a lack of need. Ophthalmologists create, interpret, store, and retrieve medical images daily. These images are central to any clinician’s decision-making process and are a keystone in diagnosis and treatment. The ability to accurately and effectively incorporate the image and metadata into a workflow depends largely on adherence to the DICOM standard. To determine areas of possible improvement in DICOM adherence, the workflow of various modalities throughout an ophthalmology department was examined. Potential improvements were found. These options are discussed here, and possible solutions are provided. 000000724 540__ $$fCC BY 000000724 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000000724 650__ $$aMedical Informatics$$021938 000000724 650__ $$aOphthalmology$$023229 000000724 650__ $$aDiagnostic Imaging$$017700 000000724 650__ $$aWorkflow$$038890 000000724 650__ $$aRadiology$$025109 000000724 6531_ $$adigital imaging and communications in medicine 000000724 6531_ $$adicom 000000724 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine$$041369 000000724 692__ $$aDepartment of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology$$041422 000000724 7001_ $$aSkidmore, Nathan$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000000724 7201_ $$aChiang, Michael$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354$$7Personal$$eAdvisor 000000724 8564_ $$9db1e2fe0-ab94-4780-9677-cd8413c7e6ea$$s1531248$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/724/files/727_etd.pdf$$ePublic$$297619f1cb451e4f764749020a20b0234$$31 000000724 905__ $$a/rest/prod/qz/20/ss/54/qz20ss54w 000000724 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:724$$pstudent-work 000000724 980__ $$aBiomedical Informatics
