Mercaptopurine and methotrexate were the first oral chemotherapy agents approved in 1953. Since that time, the use and development of new oral agents has increased in cancer care and has resulted in a shift in the way cancer care is provided. In 2012, up to 35% of the new oncology drugs were oral agents. As of 2013, more than 50 oral anticancer drugs had obtained Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approval and were available on the market. Due to the recent increase in the quantity of FDA approved oral therapy regimens for the treatment of cancer, drug choice has transitioned from infused or injectable medications to oral agents. Although all of these barriers exist, the focus of this project was to evaluate the systemic barriers that providers and staff have to an optimal oral chemotherapy process. 000007644 542__ $$fIn copyright - single owner 000007644 650__ $$aMedication Adherence$$038180 000007644 650__ $$aDrug Therapy$$018086 000007644 650__ $$aNeoplasms$$022758 000007644 650__ $$aMouth Neoplasms$$022469 000007644 6531_ $$adrug administration 000007644 691__ $$aSchool of Nursing$$041370 000007644 7001_ $$aHartman, Amy$$uOregon Health and Science University$$041354 000007644 8564_ $$9fecc94bc-d3e3-40e7-b4da-d29b4fdb1bba$$s329974$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/7644/files/Hartman.Amy.2017.pdf 000007644 905__ $$a/rest/prod/wd/37/5w/89/wd375w89n 000007644 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:7644$$pstudent-work 000007644 980__ $$aTheses and Dissertations
