000007647 520__ $$aOregon Health and Science University (OHSU) performs intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) in conjunction with Breast-conserving surgery (BCS) for early stage breast cancer. IORT procedures are performed using the Carl Zeiss INTRABEAM device which uses a miniature X-ray probe with spherical applicators and delivers dose to the lumpectomy bed using low kV superficial X- rays of 50 kVp. Landauer® NanoDot Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimeters (OSLD) in conjunction with the Landauer® microStar reader were used to meet the unique low energy in vivo dosimetry requirements to measure dose to the skin close to the treatment area. However, the characteristics of OSLDs have not been thoroughly investigated in the dose range of superficial energies. The purpose of this study is to investigate the properties of OSLDs under these conditions and to preliminarily investigate the properties and potential usage of gafchromic EBT 3 film for INTRABEAM in vivo dosimetry.
