Yet the US population is becoming more ill and patients are often readmitted to the hospital because of ?poor compliance.? Often these patients low-income and struggle to incorporate nutrition and health recommendations into their lives. This research explores current nutrition and health literature in the US, UK, and Canada address food insecurity and other social causes that inhibit the accessibility of health and nutrition recommendations to patients. Through comparison of academic literature, government, and NGO reports, the UK and Canadian approaches often addressed the underlying social causes related to limited adherence to nutrition and health recommendations, while the US had a more treatment-based and individualistic approach. One vital recommendation of this research is for the US to utilize aspects of UK and Canadian approaches to better address social issues that act as barriers to adequate health and nutrition, such as food insecurity. 000007701 650__ $$aHealth Planning$$019892 000007701 650__ $$aPoverty$$024482 000007701 650__ $$aFood Insecurity$$013447 000007701 6531_ $$ahealth status disparity 000007701 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine 000007701 692__ $$aGraduate Programs in Human Nutrition 000007701 7001_ $$aJane Sayner 000007701 8564_ $$94dfb2752-f989-4159-a9e7-2feff59917c7$$s742963$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/7701/files/Sayner.Jane.2016.pdf 000007701 905__ $$a/rest/prod/0r/96/74/36/0r967436p 000007701 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:7701$$pstudent-work 000007701 980__ $$aFood Systems & Society
