      abstract = {The patriarchal system has reigned during recorded  history, and is the social arrangement that structures and  enables the present unsustainable food system. Patriarchy  is a system of power over others that permits oppression  and hunger to damage societies world-wide. This thesis  explores the connection and effect of patriarchy on food  security and gender equity, and finds that there is a  global need for women to have improved access to education  and land, and that women must be included in consultation  on all world problems. Programs designed to increase gender  equity offer practical solutions to food insecurity that  can assist in the reduction of world hunger. Instituting  inclusive programs that foster gender equality in many  localities is imperative to sustain a livable planet.},
