This has led to a variety of perspectives and ways in which this concept has been used to define social problems, but it is not clear that culturally appropriate food fosters social justice. This research analyzed academic literature to explore the ways in which culturally appropriate food is conceptualized and found four common themes: food insecurity, cultural insecurity, cultural imperialism, and imported foods that displace local foods. A social justice framework was used to analyze the relationship between these themes and culturally appropriate food to determine how useful culturally appropriate food is in creating opportunities for social justice. The results concluded that culturally appropriate food is not particularly useful in fostering social justice, but it does provide us with a greater understanding of the social problems it has been associated with. 000007710 650__ $$aEthics$$018684 000007710 650__ $$aCulture$$017241 000007710 650__ $$aFood Supply$$019187 000007710 6531_ $$ainformal social control 000007710 691__ $$aSchool of Medicine 000007710 692__ $$aGraduate Programs in Human Nutrition 000007710 7001_ $$aGrosskopf, Brianne A. 000007710 8564_ $$962072087-920d-40eb-b167-2cea62ce5a9f$$s473558$$uhttps://digitalcollections.ohsu.edu/record/7710/files/Grosskopf.Brianne.2018.pdf 000007710 905__ $$a/rest/prod/v1/18/rf/07/v118rf07j 000007710 909CO $$ooai:digitalcollections.ohsu.edu:7710$$pstudent-work 000007710 980__ $$aFood Systems & Society
